Television plays a vital role in our daily life. Now-a-day it is really hard to imagine our lives without a TV. So everyone is having at least one TV in their house. One can get the day to day information by watching news channels and can also have fun and entertainment by watching TV.
We are going to be giving a general overview of LCD TV and take a look at the different components in LCD TVs and what can go wrong with these components and their Symptoms and also how to diagnose the problem and hopefully get them fixed.
If you are having a problem with your TV, be sure to check your model number first. The model number can be seen on the back of the TV. The model number and serial number are very important as that is will help you to identify what parts are needed to repair your TV. Best LG LCD TV Repair Service Provided by Doorstep Hub.
So the first thing you are going to do is make sure to unplug your TV from any power source and properly ground yourself. Next, you want to take out the screws on the TV that are holding the back cover on. Every back cover of a TV is different but most are held in by screws that can be easily removed. So remove all of the screws on the back of the TV and now remove the back panel.
We will start by just identifying the different parts of the TV and then we will talk about them individually.
1. Power Supply
First, we look at the power supply which in the middle of the TV. the power supply takes in power and distributes it throughout the TV. The power supply is typically connected to a power cord or an AC adaptor.
2. The main Board
The main board which is over here typically manages all of your inputs and outputs for your video and sound. You will see here on the main board that we have RCA connections, a VGA connection and HDMI connections amongst others. We will also see that some wires that run to the speakers for the TV, so again this will control your audio and video inputs and outputs.
3. The Backlight Inverter
This part can often be covered by a metal or plastic cover. You might have to take out some screws to get this part if you are going to replace it. The backlight inverter is which controls your CCFLs or light source for the TV.
4. T-Con Board
The T-Con will sometimes be sitting right on a TV or it is sitting into little area’s-Con board connects LVDS cable to the main board. This cable is extremely fragile so anytime you are working with it you want to be very careful.
One thing needs to consider that not every TV is going to be exactly the same. So not every TV will just have these four main parts, it may have more or it may have less. Some of the parts might be connected where you will have backlight inverters and power supply on the same board.
You can open up your TV find the board number and then lookup for board number to find a replacement part or you can take your board and try repair at the component level. At the component level, you would test different components on the board to be sure they work.
1. Power Supply
The first board we are going to look at closer is the power supply. The power supply takes in power and distributes it throughout the TV. Now the first thing that could go wrong here is that the TV set will not turn on.
Problem 1:
If you are not able to turn on your TV, the first thing to check is that the outlet works.
Solution
Try plug-in something else into the outlet and be sure it turns on and outlet works before you start taking apart of your TV. If the outlet works, you are still not getting power to your TV. You want to take a look at the power supply.
Problem 2:
Power supply will have a fuse on them .you can check the fuse to see if it is blown.
Solution
If the fuse has blown, you can try replacing that and plug the TV back in. now powers on the TV and the fuse stays good, you should be set to go. If the fuse blows immediately when you plug the TV Back in, then you will have another issue on the board that is causing the fuse to blow.
If you are going to check your fuse on the power supply, it can be a little bit more difficult. Some fuses are ceramic and you would need a meter to check that fuse to see if it is bad.
Some common things you need to look on these boards are blown capacitors where you have a capacitor that becomes raised at the top or is leaking fluid.
2. The Main Board
The main board controls your video and audio inputs and outputs.
The first sign that they could be wrong with your main board is if your picture on your screen is not appearing.
Solution
You plug in a Blu-ray player to your HDMI connector and it does not work, or you have your cable box connected anywhere to the main board and not showing a picture on the screen. If this is the cause, I always suggest that to check the source that works on different TVs. It is to done just to make sure the source is not the problem.
Now it is possible to repair the main board at the component level but it can be very difficult at times. Component level repairs take a lot more knowledge and expertise. Typically with a main board, you will see a lot more issues than audio issues. One of the most common issues is having a bad HDMI input.
3. T-Con Board
T-Con board is what connects your main board to your LCD panel through the LVDS cable.
One common symptom of a bad t-con board is if your TV has backlights and sounds but there is no picture. Reason for it is you are getting the sound from the main board, but you are not getting the image through the T-Con.
Another common problem with t-con is that you can get colored vertical lines on your screen or half of the screen is missing the picture.
Solution
For some TVs T-Con board is bonded into the panel, so you would not be able to replace this T-Con and some TVs T-Con board can be able to replace as it is located on the panel.
4. Backlight Inverter
The backlight inverter takes power from the power supply and turns on the lights that supply lights to your TV. There are different types of connectors from the backlight inverter to the panel and typically most are fragile.
some of the common problems with the backlight inverter, if you turn on your TV and you see the image show up on the screen for a second and then the TV goes black it could be your backlight inverter that is causing this problem.
Another problem is if you have sound but you don't have an image it could be the backlight inverter.
Solution
The backlight inverter has to be replaced.
